vInspired, Be Inspired

26 Mar

Afternoon everyone

One is being kept busy with a film project on the volunteering I and others do at a Radio station in my area, and I hope to have the film finished before the birthday date (25th April). I enjoy volunteering, as it gives you a warm fuzzy feeling and it is immensely rewarding.

And speaking of rewarding, tonight at Camden RoundHouse is a terrific event, organised by an organisation I have found volunteering work from for quite a while; vInspired. In a nutshell for those of you who do not know, this is where 16-25 year olds can volunteer and be part of an activity, organisation or get the skills that are essential for going out into the working world, something that many employers look for and through this you get recognition. It is this recognition that many young people, as well as many groups have clocked up so many hours that they are being honoured for that tonight.

At the awards at 7.30pm tonight there will be many famous and well known artists, such as ‘The Saturdays’, Katie Piper (co-presenting) and many more. Although I helped out at last years awards asa Backstage Runner (refer to March 2012) and had so much fun, I thought I should try again, and although I was unsuccessful, I was considered for a role as a Digital Presenter. This role involved interviewing the winners and speaking to the celebrity guests and providing coverage about the event through Google Hangout, and sharing the nights festivities through the power of streaming. Due to technical problems at the venue, I won’t be able to co-present via the comfort of my home, however, I dod plan to watch the event and I hope you guys can too. You may ask the question how do I do this? Answer go onto Google hangout and search for vInspired, send request to join their circle, once accepted you can watch from your computer and if you like what you see share it with your friends and others and if you like what you see, then it may vInspire you to get involved with them, or with volunteering.

Again 7.30pm, tune in and see what you think.

The Good, the Bad and the unexpected News

19 Mar

Hi everyone

I know I have been away for a few days, but it is with good reason. For the past couple of days I have been inundated with calls all week about potential opportunities. One of which was from a company in Skipton, and although it is a company that mainly focuses on theatre and a little TV the lady I spoke to said she was mightily impressed with my CV, and if a suitable position arises in the future then she or the company will give me a call.

Following that, (on the same day) I got a call from EndemolUK about helping with an episode for a well-known show that they were filming in my area and would I be free. Thankfully, I had the day off work and leapt at the opportunity and despite the weather I had a great time working with the production team, and spoke to a very nice man who drives celebrities round as he works for Jaguar.

The bad was on Monday when I had agreed to meet a director of a company in Nottingham who I was to meet to to discuss the film project and after spending 20 minutes driving around trying to find the place I gave up as I wasn’t gonna waste an afternoon on a wild goose chase ( no offence to gooses). Despite this setback and sending an email of apology, this was masked by the surprise email I got. A few weeks ago I applied for a job and passed the application questions, this was followed by online assessment and I was wondering if I would hear from the company. And low and behold I did and the news was good; you have successfully passed the verbal reasoning test. Now I await till April to see what happens next as to when and whether I am invited to an assessment centre to have an interview and everything else.

One thing I am looking forward to next month is heading back to Pinewood Studios, to the networking night that was cancelled in January, and hopefully there will be natural disasters no hurricanes, earthquakes or tornadoes. It will be great going back to one of the best film studios that the UK has ever had, and will be great seeing all of my contacts/ friends too.

Whilst I wait it will seeing what opportunities I can apply for until next month and other activities. So my darlings stay tuned and hopefully I won’t leave it too late to report on whats going on.

Music to my ears

6 Mar

Its certainly been an experience these last two days, working as a Production Assistant, on a music video. Something I have never done before, as most of my previous work has been on docs/ factual, entertainment and drama so having a music video on the CV is definitely different. I found about the opportunity through a previous contact and as I was free I thought why not.

Day One was spent meeting the crew and Art Department as the whole setting was a forest with puppets. When I say puppets think the Muppets. The role was the same as if I were working on a TV programme, as well as helping the Art people with the puppets and scenery.

Day two was more of the same thing, only difference was I had to be a dancing puppet when shooting certain scenes, and that was fun I must say. Soon the day ended quicker than it began, though I hope the director I worked with has future work opportunities for me to get involved in, as I enjoyed working with the team to help make the video for a local band. Although I have a networking night in April I am looking forward to at Pinewood Studios, provided the weather doesn’t turn and we have hurricanes or something even more extreme.
