RTS on the road for a summer show

29 Jun

Hi Fellow Mediadreamerz

I do have a posting to add about my experience on a really awesome film, but cannot post until I have the green light from the team. Hopefully, very soon. Until here is my latest news.

The comment Summer is mentioned loosely as the day the above mentioned event was on a miserable day. This is the third event I have been to run by the Royal Television Society, and as it was in Nottingham I thought lets go!

I made it to the venue; BBC EMT Studios and as soon as I walked through the sliding doors I saw William Gallagher, the writer and guy I met at the event in Birmingham. We had a great catch up in the reception before the speakers arrived and instructed us to follow them up to the venue. Once there more people arrived and introducing ourselves to everyone else the speakers; Jayne Greene, Isobel Clark, Stuart Hall (head of BBC EMT). I met a lady there who told me that her son’s girlfriend is currently working on a ITV Drama so I will try to track her down and contact her. I managed to mingle with others and William and I got to chat about his works, past and present, career paths and life in general. We saw how the news and weather is transmitted with the newsroom producers and editors trying to keep the news within the allocated time at lunchtime.

As there was a great spread putting on for everyone as people we starting to leave, we were advised to take stuff with us (I pinched the sparkling water and let the others who were travelling on the train to take the food). Soon we left and couldn’t get over how quickly everything had gone, and I got lots of contacts from the day and even got the name of a accommodation company to contact if I need help for places in the future regarding media work.

The cool thing is I have another networking event 19th July for BAFTA, so more news and info to come.

One last thing; Nunquam Deditionem, Never Surrender, never retreat

Cyber Doctors go StreamUK

17 Jun

Hi Mediadreamz readers

I know things have been quiet for the past couple of weeks since my last posting but fear not I have been busy with a variety of productions, some of which I will share later with you. For now I will share with you what I did on Thursday. I had applied for the role of a runner with a company StreamUK, who are StreamUK, answer they are online video and webcasting specialists that provide individuals and companies with the means to stream events LIVE. Like to sound of what they do then check them out http://www.streamuk.com/what-we-offer/media-platform/

I applied and after a day or two I heard from a guy called Stephen who said he would like to add me to the list of other runners who where helping out in all the major cities across the UK, and after a Skype chat received all necessary info on the event, venue and my role on the day Thursday 12th June.

Now that day has arrived. After arriving at Leicester University and finding the building I needed to be in (though it took some time to find the room but I did, eventually). I then met Sally, my venue contact who provided me with the laptop for everything I needed to do tonight. After getting help getting onto the network from one of the guys at the university, I was up and running to perform the test links and staying in contact with everyone via ‘What’s App’, it is a great App if you don’t already have it, get it. A handy tool if you are involved in a group and you need to report to a main point of call.

Soon everyone attending arrived and the event; Doctors and Professors from the Royal Society of Medicine in the field of Oncology, began with each speaker talking and presenting slides at the same time on their topic in question and although I do not know a lot about medicine it was really interesting. As the webinar progressed I and the others assigned to the various cities were submitting questions, it was soon time for the event to end and it was a case of where has the time gone?

All in all it went well. I just hope that I did a good job and represented StreamUK in a professional manner. I was grateful to Stephen calling and saying thanks for my help. I enjoyed it.

Now onto the next media activity which will be in Derby next Thursday working on a film, which I will share more about soon. I am also working on a film that is being shot in the West Midlands called ‘Our Father’ that is listed on the IMBD website, feel free to check it out and of course the ‘RatCatcher’ film that is in pre-production and filming will commence with in Autumn, and leading into next year. In between all that going to more and more networking events and everything else in between too. So I will leave it there for now, don’t want to be rabbiting on too much and have nothing interesting to post next time I am blogging away.

Before I go I have one more thing to share; I also have a motto that I use in every situation even if it is not media related; Nunquam Deditionem- Never Surrender, Never retreat.
