Baton Battle Day 3-Semi Finals

9 Aug

Hey fellow Mediadreamzers

Welcome to day threes instalment of the days event; I was sad to miss most of the day due to work (nightmare) but I made it to the venue, with plenty of supplies, and it was all systems go. When I arrived it was the Senior Men Semi final performances and they were spectacular, truly spectacular. And speaking of spectacular there was one performance from a competitor that was a real show stopper; Kazuhiro Ogami from Japan performances was utterly flawless. After is performance the spectators were chatting ’10, 10,10′. Once on the stage and the judges scores appeared you can imagine the results- 10 across the board for everything in all fields. From what I heard from Myra Kirk a rep from Baton Biz is that we all at the venue wished something that has never happened, and of course this is something I won’t forget. And of course if you are curious and/ or want to see the performances so far of today and other days then feel free to go onto Baton Biz http://www.batonbiz.com as each days events are being streamed by the production crew I am working with and it is awesome, beyond awesome in fact.

As I won’t be free till lunchtime tomorrow to help, I did everything I did yesterday; labelling tapes, ordering lunch and getting snacks ready for the crew in the morning. Once the days events had ended and we had our post production meeting we were all presented with Baton Twirling merchandise, T-shirts, jogging bottoms mine I have and will wear as it is the last day, and of course I got a picture with mine on (although it is on back to front it is so the sparkles don’t blind the competitors in the floor).

So tomorrow is when everything is on and the competitors are narrowed down and the winners are crowned the champions. I am so looking forward to the day, and I will be sad when it comes to an end as I have had so much fun (only hope everyone thinks I have done a good job).

Conclusion tomorrow, never surrender, never retreat.

Into the role of a ‘RatCatcher’

24 Apr

Hi everyone of my fellow mediadreamz readers and welcome everyone who stumbles onto my blog.

I am back in the office at LightFilms and on such a nice warm day too. It was great that the whole gang was here today; Chrissa and Tom Wadlow, Chris Newman, Charlotte Clifford and of course me. The tasks began with searching for locations filming at whilst being visited by the cat Sock (such a sweet cat). Later about 7-8 actors turned up and went off with Tom and Chris to go through their fight scenes to an undisclosed location which sounded really exciting. All I can say is that I have nevr seen so many perfect locations and areas around the East Midlands. I have to ask why no-one is using them in TV and Film programmes they have a great deal of potential, those established in the industry should come and visit us up in the Midlands and see what else there is.

So from what I found it was a case of contacting the various parties and organisations about using these locations to film at, which lead to lots of emails being exchanged and links being shared. Speaking of sharing could you please checkout the page for ‘RatCatcher’

Please share, comment, or be part of something amazing

Also there is the Facebook page where there is lots of articles to read and share too.

Please check back for more info on the progression of hte filming in pre-production. I cannot wait to get into the field and scout out these locations in person. Cameras at the ready.

Working progress

9 Feb

The title of this blog is a reference to my film idea that I am currently working on, that and getting the thumbs up for starting to plan and shoot a film about Radio Fox (More about this idea soon to come). So far my film idea is coming into existence, all I need now is a few more interviews and randon footage and I’m good to go. Thank god the Apple store are on hand, especially as I need help creating my own soundtrack and editing the right clips.

I’m just glad the weather, despite being icy and really cold, held off long enough for me to get to Nottingham for two reasons. The first was so I could get my hair cut at Sassoons as it is was getting out of control. So spent the morning talking to Alberto about my film, and he seemed really interested in the focus and style I am currently shooting it as. The second reasons was my meeting with Joe, one of the guys I interviewed for my film, and who I need additional film footage of outside of his place of work (and of Veda, his guidedog, who is lovely). Most of shooting I did was of Joe and Veda round the Broadmarsh and in the highstreet. Whilst I was out filming, I got differetn forms of inspiration for additional clips to put into the film, I only hope they work when it comes to the editing and burning onto a disc.

All I can say is that I have had a lucky day, considering it has been snowing outside since 6.30pm, and I thankfully it didn’t start earlier, otherwise I would be stuck in Nottingham for how long I have no idea. So tomorrow the bulk of my day will be adding the footage I have to my Mac and mixing different tracks for the film ideas I am and will be working on.

The Director/ Editor who came in from the cold

22 Oct

Note to self now that it is getting colder, stock up on Long Johns and all manner of thermals. Well, only on the Thursday nights when filming in Derby at the University. So far I’ve captured a lot footage of the Braves, and boy its some stuff. Thankfully, Steven had his computer with him, so I could put what I got from the previous 2 weeks onto a hard-drive, and then delete it from my flip. Along with getting heaps of footage of different training groups. Matt also said to me that he, and the other coaches, want me to create a promo video of the Derby Braves’ website, which I am so on-board for. I have an idea in my head for a beginning and end, just have to figure out the middle and then I’m good to go. Once in my car I thought thank god for heating systems, so I think next week I may stretch to 3 pairs of socks, and more layers, but apart from that I am having a blast, and can’t wait to get my hands on Final Cut Pro software. As I’ve said a lot in previous posts I seriously need final cut pro experience. So all I have to do now is find out who wants to be in the promo, how its got to be and start writing a treatment for it, and then all systems go.

Well, this what was shouted a lot last night, obviously. Though before I went to the 3G Pitch, I decided to see if any of my lecturers were in the History department. Well, I certainly gave Ruth and Ian a surprise, as they didn’t expect to see me that night, so I explained why I was back at Derby uni, and that I would hopefully be seeing them when I’d be in either filming, or editing.

Made it to the pitch and was greeted by Adelie, someone on the sports committee, who came prepared for the cold weather, with a cup of coffee (and thats whose in this picture).

Managed to get some great footage of the practice session last night, though before practice everyone was warming up with stretches and one of the moves I’m gonna nickname is ‘the werewolf’. Reason for that is that everyone had their backs arched when stretching, and then the howling started, and on the night of a full moon too!

When I saw that my flip had a small amount of battery power, I thought I wouldn’t be getting anymore footage, thankfully flip cameras record when there is no battery life left, there is a god. One thing that surprised me was that I didn’t get in anyone’s way when they were training. One thing I discussed with Adelie was coming into the uni, to put the footage I have onto an apple mac. Thankfully, there are a lot of media people with the Derby Braves, and people on the sports committee who can help me out. A bonus is I also know the head of the media department, who maybe able to help me, so I just have to wait to hear what time on Thursday afternoon to go into the uni to add what I already have. So I am looking forward to getting to grips with Final cut pro, again. Stay tuned for next Thursdays tales, and howling.
