Media moving and shaking

3 Jun

Hey Mediadreamzers

I know it has been a while since my last post (gosh that sounds a little bit like it’s been X number of days, moths, years since my last confession). Either way, I’m sitting in front of my computer ready to update. I have been quiet for the past few weeks because I was preparing myself for a job interview, for a new role in the media company I work at. The role is that of a Production Assistant in the Sports gallery, I had my interview and although I was informed it was last roughly an hour it was actually 1/2. I guess that’s because some of the answers I’d given to some of the questions answered other questions they wanted to ask me. Well, the top and bottom of it is, I was offered the job.
So, I will be working as a PA in the Sports gallery when my start date will be I do not know, but I am hoping to continue with my media activities on my days off.

The other news to share is I went for an informal chat with a media group who are launching a potential idea that is still in the early stages of funding and approval and have asked me to get involved with the media-related production work side too. It’s mainly and in some way mostly Virtual Reality related with me appearing on a mirror screen, that is all I can say for the time being.

That in additional to directors and producers I have worked with saying that they have projects coming up and want me back on set, with home-baked treats of course. One of which has said his next project is Sept/ Oct, so looking forward to that, whatever it is. Well, I can’t let the crew down. So that has given me something to think about, in addition to a project that is being filmed not far from me in September. Granted it is 2 months away, but an early bid to get involved for a few days would be awesome so that I am sort of looking forward to, I’ve emailed the team and all I can do is wait.

Borstal Breakout premiere

28 Apr

Hey Mediadreamzers

Boy am I tired, but it is so worth it after getting back at 1 am from the premiere of a film I was lucky to work on last year; ‘Borstal’. What a journey it was getting there, but I made it, one well two things I noticed on my way to Romford station was that there’s a tunnel and underground construction academy; never knew one existed. Second got to see Romford greyhound track always seen it but never been near the track. Got to the cinema and was great catching up with everyone and seeing Gaz and Steven and promising that the next film I get the chance to work with Steven on there will be cake. When I worked on the ‘Borstal’ film I made a mixture of cakes for cast and crew so next time I will see what I can make to surprise everyone. After welcome drinks and press coverage of the film for Channel 5, we headed into the cinema screening where a series of trailers were shown before the film.

pre-premiere drinks

The film itself is about the memoir of Kris Gray being sent to Borstal for X number of months and how he manages to survive whilst having to contend with some of the prisoners and prison officer by the name Forshaw who take a dislike to Kris. I enjoyed seeing the finished piece on the big screen and thought that adding a narrative/ soliloquy effect of the main character Kris ass that personal touch too. Once the film finished, an auction was held to raise money for a worthy cause; there was one of the Borstal outfits, signed pictures, and posters, and other film-related merchandise.

I would have loved to have stayed longer for the after party but need to get my trains back to Buckinghamshire. It was a great night and I had so much fun and something out of the ordinary happened; on my way to Romford station, I saw a fox and as clear as daylight (ironic as it was night time) the fox walked past me as if it was a pedestrian on his way so where.
Journey back was o.k. and made it back in the early hours of this morning, it will catch up with me, but I’m not gonna let that stop me from going to my next media event today, well later this afternoon at the BAFTA House. One surprise for me but not people that live in cities is seeing a fox when I was heading to Romford station.

MKFN Meet up

18 Feb

Hey Mediadreamzers

My latest post is more local than capital based. Yesterday was the monthly meet up with film makers and media people. And as there were only a few of us it was a sit around a table and discussing ideas planned for that night.

One proposed topic idea discussed was a film challenge project, similar to the 48HR challenge that usually happens Summer/ Autumn time, but this one was and is going to be a challenge to submit scripts and after read by a panel of ‘judges’ to pick the best one and have everyone at the table and those that couldn’t attend, help make the film and submit it to festivals, both local and international. Questions were asked and views were expressed at this point amongst other things, but I think when dates and outlines are established for submission deadline is made then that might get underway.

The follow-up topic discussed was an potential idea that I wanted to share with everyone, and the idea was having MK set up/ establish a TV channel via YouTube or Free-view. Although I learned that others have tried to do this and it had fizzled out. After discussing this for quite some time, everyone thought that it would work and that if I wanted to go for it to go for it; one idea was to get locals and others who thought it might work to share their own videos on a media channel. I only hope it works though the general agreement was to have an internet channel and take it from there.

The final topic was again festival related but discussing events coming up in the Summer and arranging the means to film the dance and artistic performances of those in August/ September, and how many wanted to avoid be pushed out of the festival by others and not getting a chance to showcase their work. Although it got heated but not aggressively heated, at least we all have things to plan and work on ready for next months session.

So lots to do and plan for in the coming months, and hopefully this will kick off when I am back from Paris next week, and I’m hoping that my French is good enough; I’ve learnt certain phrases like Can I have a Lawyer that speaks English, I didn’t do it and other greetings to use.

Event is Bond, Bondstars

25 Sep

Hey Mediadreamzers

p1050057

As promised this post is one that is a must to share, I have been waiting for months for this day and it finally arrived. It was an early rise to get to Pinewood Studios for a Bondstars event ‘Designs on Bond’ honoring Peter Lamont, Art Director for the Bond films from Goldfinger to Spectre. Apart from a nightmare getting to Pinewood due to road closures I made it and once there it was like film heaven, going in and getting a goodie bag of Peter Lamont’s book (which I got autographed) and other items it was a case of touring the Heatherden Hall seeing the Special guests many of whom I met during the day. The special guests were at tables with autographed photos and other items, next to tables of dealers selling merchandise, one thing I came away with was a Moneypenny signed t-shirt. Well if people are gonna christen you with that name you might as well have the t-shirt to go with it. It was great to see and meet many of my Bond Facebook friends in person and we had a great chat and catch up before the event officially kicked off. We were introduced to the work of Peter Lamont, his work and him answering questions from the Bondstars.com organizers. We saw a tribute program to his work on the Bond films and everyone sharing their memories of Peter Lamont, it was interesting to learn that Peter’s brother and also his were also part of the Bond franchise. After the documentary many of Peter’s colleagues got on the stage and shared their memories of Peter and the Bond films they had worked on, really interesting to hear.

When there is a break before the next surprise, I decided to wonder round and get some autographs from many of the well-know crew from Bond, one of whom was Terry Madden (and I also saw Terry Bamber-The man and legend), as well as Terry Ackland-snow, Chris Corbould, John Richardson, John Grover and many other people. I got to sit with many Bond Facebook friends, and got to meet the guys behind James Bond Radio for a chat and lunch which was really enjoyable. After this it was a Q&A session with Peter Lamont and seeing tributes on the big screen from Sir Roger Moore, James Cameron and other well know stars looking over the film sets he has created and the Oscar he won working on Titanic, as well as showing other iconic films he has been part of. Some of the Bond writers came to pay tribute to Peter as a surprise too which was great. There were some apologises said, one of which came from Barbara B and Michael W, and other individuals who could not make it. After the Q&A we all got a break and got to wonder round the memorabilia room to see what else was there and other guests had arrived too. I got to have my picture with some of the Bond Girl stars, I particularly had a really enjoyable conversation with Madeline Smith and Caroline Munroe both of them were very kind in saying that I was very pretty and yes they were being very kind. There was a garden tour of Pinewood but as I have had a tour of Pinewood before I stayed to continue chatting to Madeline and Caroline as well as talking to the other Bond stars/ girls as they had taken the day to come to Pinewood I thought it would be rude to not go and say hi. It was an incredible day involving tea and scones that everyone enjoyed, before going to listen to Q The Music tribute to Peter and the Bond films he has worked on. I continued to chat to Caroline and Madeline and other stars. I was flattered beyond measure by Caroline saying to other Bond special guests about me and how pretty I am and said that I should consider being in a Bond film. One can only dream.

Q the Music was brilliant like it was the first time I heard it and seeing with others was incredible. I was said when the day came to an end, and we all needed to leave. I said my goodbyes and thanks to everyone I got to meet, especially Peter and I also got to see his grandson too. Got many hugs and kisses from people I met, I really hope I get to go to the next Bondstars.com event next year, fingers crossed that there gonna be other Bond events in the future.

When my next opportunity is going to be I do not know but I am looking forward to it, next on my list is to bake for the Macmillan coffee morning this week coming up so I will see how this goes and if everything turns out o.k.

All that is left to say is Thank you Peter Lamont, Bondstars and all other special guests- crew and Bond Girls who came to Pinewood Studios.

Festive Film Fever Round Two

18 Dec

Hey Mediadreamzers

What a crazy few days, work, gift wrapping and heading off to all sorts of Christmas parties and events. My latest was a Christmas dinner outing with people I know who work in different fields of Media; ranging from SFX (Basically blowing stuff up) to Production Managers who work on Game of Thrones. I’m jealous these guys have sat on the iron throne, I guess one can dream to work or be a part of G.O.T or something on those lines in the future.

One of the challenges I had was driving down the motorway in the lashing rain in a dress as long as the Effiel Tower and the battling to change my shoes into sky- scrappers when I arrived. It was both a catch-up and a laugh, and at one point the conversation shifted to talking about Cosplay and talking about events and films based on it whole phenomena effect on people. One of the guys at the dinner decided to look more into Cosplay and after searching Google images found what he was looking for and he came across one picture that according to him and everyone else at the table looked like me. After that it was compare each photo to me and at the end of it 27 photos out of a possible 100+ seemed to look like me. Funny old world.

Next Christmas gathering is soon to be happening but as I wait, I’m making my Media goals for next year, building food bank boxes at work and decanting my Christmas alcohol. Merry times, v.merry times.

Magnetitude of a Masterclass: Francine Marchetti

17 Oct

Hi Mediadreamzers

Gosh it feels like years have passed since I last wrote a post on here, its mainly down to getting everything finally settled with moving house. Now I am back and nearing to share my planned and upcoming events and media activities.

The first one to share with you was a Masterclass and Networking event that happened earlier today. This is and was part of the Nottingham International Microfilm Festival (its one of the many upcoming events I am looking forward to going to over the next few days). So it was a case of travelling to Nottingham and getting ready to listen to, make notes and ask questions from the guest speaker; Francine Marchetti.

And the next question is who is Francine Marchetti and the answer is that she is an accomplished senior executive and producer with extensive experience in film, television and digital media production, including scripted and non- scripted content creation, production and post-production management, and production pipelines in visual effects, animation and stereoscopic 3D for global entertainment. She will be discussing her work and developments for those aspiring industry professionals. One particular production Francine was involved in was the film W. about Wallis Simpson. Listening to her experiences, how and why she got involved in the industry, tips and advice and a few funny moments in the industry and on projects was both insightful and intriguing.

I know my main area is miscellaneous crew but it nice to hear from other fields in the industry and if they know of or can recommend individuals to contact or send ones details too.

My media work with the company I work with is going well, and I am definitely looking forward to the new year where I get the chance to go into the field more with the camera crew and work upstairs with the editors and assistant producers and hopefully now forward some point next year.

There is one particular event that is on my calendar that I am getting very excited about and it will be a pre-birthday treat for me to go to well there are actually two; one on 25th and one 26th. Keep your eyes open for pictures and clues on the events yet to come. I may also be involved for a few days on a freelance project back in my home county.
