Chitty Chitty Wow Wow

4 Dec

Hi Mediadreamzers

My gosh it has been an age since I last posted, well since the Bond charity night in September. I confess that I need to amend a comment I made in the last post; I mentioned that there was going to be a Bond gala night in January. Well it has been discovered that the event was a con something unfortunately some of my friends were the victims of. It turns out that the person who was ‘organising’ the event had named dropped some well known Bond actors who were to be attending. Well the agents to the stars notified certain parties that they/ the actors had no idea of this event let a lone had been asked to attend. Top and Tail is as you can guess the event has been cancelled and to my knowledge people had managed to get a refunded on the non-existent event.

Now I will get round to sharing my latest event, and it involved going to my favourite place, Pinewood. Granted this was about 2 weeks ago, just been waiting on photos to be sent to me before sharing the day. This was as the title of the post suggests an event to do with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The event marked 50 years since the film hit the silver screen and it was a fun filled day from start to finish. I admit I thought I was going to have problems travelling down as the route I take to Pinewood was closed but managed to make headway on the M1.

Made it in good time and met up with familiar faces and friends before walking through the great doors to Heatherden Hall which has featured in many films that being Carry On and James Bond. Once inside, it was a tour of the garden and grounds with Dave Worral who imparted fun facts on the different parts and areas of the garden. I even saw a memorial stone dedicated to Desmond Llewelyn (as many know played Q). Whilst on the tour I got chatting to the son of the composer to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Robert Sherman.

Before going back into Heatherden Hall for the Q&A with the crew and special guests we all got a change to have our pictures taken next to one of the original cars used in the film (unfortunately we couldn’t drive it around the film lot). Whilst the photos were being snapped I got the change to chat to a few people and some of the special guests. One thing that was a hue surprise when the Q&A session started was the children actors from the film Adrian Hall and Heather Ripley. One interesting fact that I discovered was that Heather never really auditioned for the role of Jemima that the original child was ill and Heather’s mum put her daughter forward as she knew the lines, and from there things progressed.

After the Q&A lunch was served and I got chatting to one of the guys at my table who works for Universal channel and I also learned that another person was friends with a Danish composer, who knows, wait for it… Mads Mikkelsen. Hearing that I was in heaven. There was also a quiz about the film and other trivial facts and although it was an age since I saw the film I guessed some of the answers.

The highlight to end the day was going into the John Barry theatre and watching the film on the silver screen with well distinguished actors and crew members. Although it was great seeing it in the theatre it was bloody freezing. I couldn’t get over how quickly the day ended and it was a blast from start to finish and I felt that the security guys didn’t want any of us to leave as the barrier to let us in and out was on lock down. As much as I would loved to have spent the night at Pinewood studios that didn’t happen; security eventually let us out.

Made it back buzzing from such a fantastic day and I look forward to my next job or venture out into the world of Media.

Whether that is before or after Christmas who knows.

Event is Bond, Bondstars

25 Sep

Hey Mediadreamzers

As promised this post is one that is a must to share, I have been waiting for months for this day and it finally arrived. It was an early rise to get to Pinewood Studios for a Bondstars event ‘Designs on Bond’ honoring Peter Lamont, Art Director for the Bond films from Goldfinger to Spectre. Apart from a nightmare getting to Pinewood due to road closures I made it and once there it was like film heaven, going in and getting a goodie bag of Peter Lamont’s book (which I got autographed) and other items it was a case of touring the Heatherden Hall seeing the Special guests many of whom I met during the day. The special guests were at tables with autographed photos and other items, next to tables of dealers selling merchandise, one thing I came away with was a Moneypenny signed t-shirt. Well if people are gonna christen you with that name you might as well have the t-shirt to go with it. It was great to see and meet many of my Bond Facebook friends in person and we had a great chat and catch up before the event officially kicked off. We were introduced to the work of Peter Lamont, his work and him answering questions from the Bondstars.com organizers. We saw a tribute program to his work on the Bond films and everyone sharing their memories of Peter Lamont, it was interesting to learn that Peter’s brother and also his were also part of the Bond franchise. After the documentary many of Peter’s colleagues got on the stage and shared their memories of Peter and the Bond films they had worked on, really interesting to hear.

When there is a break before the next surprise, I decided to wonder round and get some autographs from many of the well-know crew from Bond, one of whom was Terry Madden (and I also saw Terry Bamber-The man and legend), as well as Terry Ackland-snow, Chris Corbould, John Richardson, John Grover and many other people. I got to sit with many Bond Facebook friends, and got to meet the guys behind James Bond Radio for a chat and lunch which was really enjoyable. After this it was a Q&A session with Peter Lamont and seeing tributes on the big screen from Sir Roger Moore, James Cameron and other well know stars looking over the film sets he has created and the Oscar he won working on Titanic, as well as showing other iconic films he has been part of. Some of the Bond writers came to pay tribute to Peter as a surprise too which was great. There were some apologises said, one of which came from Barbara B and Michael W, and other individuals who could not make it. After the Q&A we all got a break and got to wonder round the memorabilia room to see what else was there and other guests had arrived too. I got to have my picture with some of the Bond Girl stars, I particularly had a really enjoyable conversation with Madeline Smith and Caroline Munroe both of them were very kind in saying that I was very pretty and yes they were being very kind. There was a garden tour of Pinewood but as I have had a tour of Pinewood before I stayed to continue chatting to Madeline and Caroline as well as talking to the other Bond stars/ girls as they had taken the day to come to Pinewood I thought it would be rude to not go and say hi. It was an incredible day involving tea and scones that everyone enjoyed, before going to listen to Q The Music tribute to Peter and the Bond films he has worked on. I continued to chat to Caroline and Madeline and other stars. I was flattered beyond measure by Caroline saying to other Bond special guests about me and how pretty I am and said that I should consider being in a Bond film. One can only dream.

Q the Music was brilliant like it was the first time I heard it and seeing with others was incredible. I was said when the day came to an end, and we all needed to leave. I said my goodbyes and thanks to everyone I got to meet, especially Peter and I also got to see his grandson too. Got many hugs and kisses from people I met, I really hope I get to go to the next Bondstars.com event next year, fingers crossed that there gonna be other Bond events in the future.

When my next opportunity is going to be I do not know but I am looking forward to it, next on my list is to bake for the Macmillan coffee morning this week coming up so I will see how this goes and if everything turns out o.k.

All that is left to say is Thank you Peter Lamont, Bondstars and all other special guests- crew and Bond Girls who came to Pinewood Studios.

Paradise in the land of Pinewood Studios

18 Apr

I have just got back to the midlands, having spent the last two hours driving up the M25 having driven down it yesterday. Reason for this? Answer attending a networking event organised by an agency that I am registered with. The event was meant to be in January but as many of you know about the freaky weather we had at that time, it got cancelled. Now that was a bummer! However the sun shone the sky was clear and there were no accidents when I left at lunchtime.

Made it on site about two hours before the event kicked off, which worked in my favour; I decided to go and say ‘Hi’ to the security guys I met last year when working as an usher, and I must say they were very happy to see me. It was great having a catch up as they know everything that is going on on all the different sites. They also suggested I visit the mail room, which I did before heading to Heatherden Hall. I learned that that building was used as the Governors residency in the film ‘Carry On Up The Khyber’. Funny thought crossed my mind; we should all reenact the scene where they are all sitting down to dinner then we could all get ‘Plastered’.

When the event kicked off at 6pm, it was a case of doing what I’d done at previous events; walking up to people, talk and then give them a business card. It was really cool that I met up with some of the people I had seen at previous events and we had a great catch up, which made my day even better.

Though one woman who I met saw my CV and was excited at the fact that I had a degree in History, insisted on taking my business card and saying she wanted to hire me on a project that is currently in pre-production. One thing she said to me was that I should be looking for AD work and for Junior Researcher roles too as I have way too much experience as a runner now to still be one, so that’s a thought to consider. The person she was standing next to took my card too as she said she knows someone who is looking for runners.

Eventually we had to wrap up our conversations with everyone else and leave as 8.30pm came round so fast, all in all it was a great night. I hope I can go back to Pinewood for future events or for work fingers crossed. I hope the next posting I add to my site is one of interest and intriguing. Happy reading 🙂 x
