Cosmopolitan Carnival Creativity

24 Aug

Hi Mediadreamz readers

What a day I have had, luckily not stuck on a checkout but something much more interesting. A few weeks back I was contacted by a company, through a recommendation, to help film an event happening in Leicester this weekend. The event is as you see above the Cosmopolitan Carnival and the purpose of the event is and was to Celebrate Leicester’s culturally diverse city through every imaginable art form. Everything from dancing of all forms to graffiti art, to music to singing and I along with a friend of mine, Raj, who I have worked with before on episodes of ‘Dickinson’s Real Deal’ were given the role of filming the setting up of the events, the reactions of people, the performances throughout the day and the closing aftermath of the events on the day.

Prior to the event starting all the people involved we all met at Red Hot World Buffet where everyone had a complimentary lunch before getting ready to work. After getting the cameras Raj and I started filming, though the first half hour the cameras died so whilst they were charging we improvised (I used a spare Flip camera that I bought with me, and Raj used his phone). When all cameras had died it was a case of taking shifts to monitor the charging and guarding the tripods in half hourly intervals, in order to get some incredible footage. The main stage was mainly musical acts and the high st was dedicated to a mixture of dancing everything from tribal to zumba that encouraged other people to get involved too. I also thought the people on stilts was very creative. I made a couple of trips to st. Martin’s sq to listen to the random musical acts too, as well as getting people’s reactions. Personally my favourite bit was the dancing Chinese dragon, it was certainly something the children who came to the event found really interesting).

Areas were designated for the following
– Jubilee Square MAIN STAGE- MUSIC
– High Street DANCE ZONE
– St Martin’s Sq PERFORMANCE AREA-MUSIC

and not forgetting the Silver Arcade ARTS HUB & WORKSHOP DISPLAYS

Soon time grew closer to the fact that the dancing had finished and that everything was to end at Jubilee Sq with a few final acts before it all ended with a film projection on the wall of BBC Radio Leicester, so of the members of staff I met during the days events, and the footage was very interesting and cleverly constructed. And as usual the day went by so fast, this one of the disadvantages I have when involved in media work, that when I am enjoying something so much time just goes by, that is why it is so precious to any and all productions.

I am also having fun working on the feature film I mentioned before, which I resume work on in the next few days.

For my Eyes only on 103 The Eye

30 Jul

Hi guys

Whilst I have been waiting for my upcoming media projects, which will be in the next two weeks, I have been looking into getting involved with another radio station as I haven’t been able to get into Leicester for a few weeks. And as I still love playing music and volunteering I looked into a station closer to home and came across 103 The Eye. After eyeing up the website, contacting them, sending in an application I was invited into the studio to shadow one of their well known prestigious presenter- Karl.

Once in the studio it was this does this, that does that and here are all of these colourful lights and buttons. It was certainly a lot to take in but I am learning, again. Playing old classics and learning new tricks of the trade was pretty cool, and having a laugh putting on voices and telling quirky stories too. I must have done a good job today because I have been invited back to the studio to gate crash another show on Friday which I am gonna do and see what happens all fun and games. I am certainly looking forward to the first two weeks of August helping film a sports event and a few days working on a feature film.

Please stay tuned to the page.

Rocking the Crumbling Cookie

22 May

Hi Guys

Apart from the day not making its mind up, it was a great for me, why you may ask; Answer helping work on a music video. An email was sent out last week by a company 151 films asking for a runner to help out on a shoot I threw my hat into the ring, sort of speak and was happy to hear that I had been picked.

Made it to the venue early; The Crumbling Cookie, cafe/ place where local bands perform before everyone and I then met Pete one of the camera operators and the man with the lightening equipment. Soon the band arrived ‘The Strangler Figs’, and then the rest of the crew arrived and it was great to put a name to face with the guy who hired me for the day, Merlin. I then met the sound guys Peri and Gil, followed by the Jamie and Gareth the camera operators. It was all hands to the pump, and I learned something new; how to rig and de-rig lighting equipment and how to alter the appearance of the lighting.  Where we were setting was really spacious and was handy that it had a bar in the basement/ lower floor of the venue. Once everything was set and ready and acting as the ‘Clapper’ those famous words were spoken by Merlin; ACTION.  The Strangler Figs performed a selection of songs and I admit they were pretty cool songs, I will have to see if they are on iTunes, and if so download their tracks. Soon it was time to shout ‘That’s a wrap’ and the de-rigging began, and although it was only for a couple of hours I enjoyed it. It was nice to work on a project that is local and not so far away.

So if anyone is seeking to have a video made for your business, performances, artists, corporate events and special occasions then feel free to give them a buzz http://151films.co.uk

More on the horizon, please stay tuned and wait for the chips to fall.

Radio Rocks

1 May

Another week has come and gone, though last Tuesday was awesome with the Radio Fox party, and it was marked with awesome weather. I think the next party the station has should be held at the Leicester Tigers stadium as it is across the road from the hospital. Once at Fox, meeting other presenters I have never met, I left to get some requests from Ward 5 for the half an hour me Liz and Arti were gonna be on-air. I thought I should add a video of when we were on air, and how enthusiastic I was during that time.

Still working on the music for the fox film that after 4 months of working on is completed. One thing I am trying to get is the GarageBand jam packs, does anyone know where to get them, I have tried Amazon and there is not much of a selection on the site. If anyone has any suggestions feel free to leave a comment. Here are some photos of the night too. The Deli’s Mix Rockin’ it up at Shed

12 Dec

What a night my Friday just gone, normally I’d be spending it either working or just chilling out at home, but that night was spent in Leicester at Shed for Glastonbudget audition event, that the Deli’s Mix were be performing at. As these guys have asked me to help make a music video, I have spent the last couple of weeks trying to find those interested in helping out with this and thanks to one of the media lecturers I know at Derby, she posted the opportunity and two people responded; Patricia and Ashleigh. Once we made it to Leicester we met the guys in the Deli’s mix band who gave us a breakdown of what was going to happen, and at the same time I had my picture taken whilst wearing a really cool hat.

These plans changed however, as an unexpected spanner was thrown in the works, in that they were ment to be on stage first, only for us to find out that night that they would’nt be performing until 10.45pm. This unfortunately was an issue for the three of us that were going to be filming, due to travelling out of Leicester back home. So we changed the original plan where instead we conducted interviews with each person in the band, before asking them questions as a group. Coupled with this we managed to get footage of them chilling out and getting ready beforehand. One thing I learned from Rich when I was interviewing him that apart from the group having a series of gigs next year, which I, Patricia and Ashleigh hope to be filming, the music video they want to create is going to be sent to the states, do the initials MGM ring any bells?

Once Rich’s interview had finished I decided to interview the group, and we certainly got a lot out of a 10 minute interview (which is here for you to see and to judge yourself) be warned there is the odd swear word! Add in you may here me, Ashleigh and Patricia laughing, but it was worth it, with what said then.

Once back inside we saw some of the other performances, before we unfortunately had to go. Though I am so on board for filming the additional gigs and rehearsals before and in the new year, it will certainly give me a chance to play around experiement with final cut pro. So watch the interview and feel free to leave comments.

Jammin’ with ‘The Deli Mix’

17 Oct

Well, I hope to be in the next few weeks, along with the filming I’m doing with the Derby Braves. A few weeks ago a friend who went to schol with contacted me asking if I would help him make a promotional music video of his band, called ‘The Deli Mix’, to send to the US.

For those of you who have not heard of ‘The Deli Mix’, I guarantee you will soon, not just through me writing about them on my blog, but also through their music. But for the momoent here is a little info on the band, ‘The Deli Mix’ is a funk and cpsychedelic rock band, whose music, when heard, is gonna blow everyones minds.

The next thing I will be writing about this awesome band is when I’ll start filming their music video. I’m gonna be honest and say I’ve never shot a music video before, so it will be a first and great experience for me too.

Can’t wait to get started working with ‘The Deli Mix’. They ROCK!
