The Finish Line has been crossed

7 Jun

Well, as I mentioned in the last post that I was going to be running Race For Life. I jogged and in between walked it and it took me 30 minutes and 35 seconds. At 3KM it started to get much harder, and the temptation was there to jump in the fountains to cool down but I thought the urge.

At the end it was great getting my dog tags as my medal, I called myself a Captain in the Pink Army, even at the start of the race we all began a workout with some really fit and buff guys with input from Capital FM presenters adding their thoughts.

My feet are a little sore but as long as I can drive tomorrow then I’ll be fine; now time to recover.

How productive a week can be

11 Sep

Well, what a whirl-wind week it has been for media work and activities.

I spent Monday in a production meeting bringing the producer and director up to speed on everything I have done and what is remaining left to be completed. This was everything to sourcing locations to finding a generator, to contacting the actors, liaising with a company that hires out equipment to a million other tasks to see to and others to add to my list. God I love this business!

Tuesday was devoted to more media work, both pre-production work on the two productions I am working on, and co-presenting a radio show with another person who has more experience than me, and I will say two hours does go by really fast when your having fun, and the fun continued for me having my very first fitness class and although I was the newbie in the group no prisoners were taken so I did everything at the same intensity as everyone else and afterwards my legs felt like jelly.

Wednesday was spent at my local news station learning the art of data wrangling ( taking footage captured and adding them to the system and catalogued on editing software). I met the tech manager, Paul Magor, who allowed me to spend the day with three techno guys, before being invited to watch the news output in the gallery at lunchtime. Afterwards I was taken to the archive department to see how everything is added to the system and retrieved years down the line and the methods used to record footage. It amazes me to see that really big chunky tapes were used then it was CDs to small tapes to memory cards, how technology has certainly evolved. One thing that really surprised me I was invited to a meeting with the days news producer, the director, techno guy and editors for the days output and the East Midlands presenters for news, sports and weather. The surprise was seeing Anne Davis one of the presenters who I know really well, and after the meeting when I was in one of the editing suites Anne came to find me for a catch up chat and to see how I was and of course vice versa.

Before the news feed went out for the evening which I went into the gallery to see Paul took me to the Inside Out team, who invited me to come back in on Thursday to send the day with them to learn how they data wrangle footage they capture, log, duplicate, and using prelude software (excessive notes were taken so I did not forget anything).

Friday would have been a day working on a production in Leicester but they did not need me, however, I was asked to send a copy of my CV for future work with the production company as they are always looking for crew to work with them on productions.

And now I must resume my media work with Light Films, as there is a lot to do. One final note to fore-warn everyone that a month from today I will be writing to my hearts delight about a visit I will be making to the home of hammer horror, carry on and James Bond. Keep you eyes peeled

For my Eyes only on 103 The Eye

30 Jul

Hi guys

Whilst I have been waiting for my upcoming media projects, which will be in the next two weeks, I have been looking into getting involved with another radio station as I haven’t been able to get into Leicester for a few weeks. And as I still love playing music and volunteering I looked into a station closer to home and came across 103 The Eye. After eyeing up the website, contacting them, sending in an application I was invited into the studio to shadow one of their well known prestigious presenter- Karl.

Once in the studio it was this does this, that does that and here are all of these colourful lights and buttons. It was certainly a lot to take in but I am learning, again. Playing old classics and learning new tricks of the trade was pretty cool, and having a laugh putting on voices and telling quirky stories too. I must have done a good job today because I have been invited back to the studio to gate crash another show on Friday which I am gonna do and see what happens all fun and games. I am certainly looking forward to the first two weeks of August helping film a sports event and a few days working on a feature film.

Please stay tuned to the page.

Next steps

15 Jun

I have managed to finish the music for my montage film from the Radio Fox Birthday night. I thought the music would take me forever to do as it normally takes me a long time to put something together. On this occasion it took a matter of an hour and half, which surprised me, maybe I should adopt the method I used here; finding random loops, listen to them and then add them.

Well here is the film, nothing too fancy.

My next objective is to make a film for a friend of mine, who after seeing my radio film wants my help, which I have agreed to. In addition, I will be helping out a director shot a film in the region. This is to start next week, hopefully lots to report.

Radio Film

17 May

AT LAST, AT LONG LAST, ITS FINISHED.

Hi Folks

After working on my film project for the past 4-5 months it is finished. The film itself was finished back in March, it was the music that was such a nightmare. Hopefully, you like it and can hear it too.

If you could watch it and either like, or leave me your thoughts, that would be awesome. I have two more film ideas in the pipeline, and I am in the midst of planning them along with some foreseeable future feature film. I know what I am doing isn’t Cannes or Oscar worthily material, but at least it can be part of my portfolio. One thing that surprised me was the guys at my local Apple store want to have a copy of my film to showcase during their lessons on FinalCut Pro. I admit FinalCut did seem complicated at first, but when I got used to it, it was awesome!

Watch, comment, rate and enjoy.

Radio Rocks

1 May

Another week has come and gone, though last Tuesday was awesome with the Radio Fox party, and it was marked with awesome weather. I think the next party the station has should be held at the Leicester Tigers stadium as it is across the road from the hospital. Once at Fox, meeting other presenters I have never met, I left to get some requests from Ward 5 for the half an hour me Liz and Arti were gonna be on-air. I thought I should add a video of when we were on air, and how enthusiastic I was during that time.

Still working on the music for the fox film that after 4 months of working on is completed. One thing I am trying to get is the GarageBand jam packs, does anyone know where to get them, I have tried Amazon and there is not much of a selection on the site. If anyone has any suggestions feel free to leave a comment. Here are some photos of the night too. Rock DJ’s Party

23 Apr

Today of this week marks the anniversary date for the radio station that I volunteer at, Royal Infirmary, 25 years from today was when the studio was created and in recognition of this me, the studio director and all the other presenters are gonna party all of today and tonight, which I am so looking forward to. Armed with cameras (photo and flip) lots of pics and footage will be captured and made into a short film of the night. I can at long last (after 4 months work) say that my Radio Fox Film is finished, I am just getting the music sorted so when it is done it will be here for you to watch, on the new radio fox website and of course Youtube. When its up, please watch and leave me your thoughts. Until then keep checking back. πŸ™‚
