Before Tilbury A Dream

16 Apr

Hey Mediadreamerz

Time seems to be going by so fast that I’m frightened to blink too often. Though I have used my time wisely over the last couple of weeks learning new skills and taking on new activities. I’m enjoying fencing, something I have been doing for the past 6 weeks and although it is exhausting I am loving it. The other activity is self defence classes, which is taught by Army cadets so I will know how to kick someones ass if they try to attack me, I write this in a jokey tone. One main important point is that both of these skills will bulk up my CV, specifically for work as an extra/ SA as any unusual skills, hobbies, traits can enhance your changes for particular roles. It is also a good ice-breaker for meeting people in the future.

I digress, must get back on track, back to the topic of my post which was a meeting of writers and production crew on the above planned project. Getting into the venue was a challenge but found a way inside before heading to the meeting room. Alan the Director, introduced everyone there and I learned that some of the writers have worked with the BBC and other well-known production companies, so a lot of credits and merits to their names. The idea was explained by Alan that he wanted three types of media into the production, though the issue was distracting and confusing audiences with too much with a short running time. Once the writers had discussed their suggestions on what could be done instead it was agreed that individual meetings with each group of people needed to be arranged for us all to move forward onto the next stage. It was great meeting new people who asked me for one of my Paul Smith inspired- styled business cards (I need to restock my card case now). It is always good to have meetings in order to share creative ideas and to eliminate issues and find solutions to approaches that won’t work.

So I have my extra curriculum activities to keep me busy, and looking to learn so much more, it maybe something I do next year as part of my next set of goals/ challenges to try my hand at; makes my year much more interesting. I just hope I can remember what I was taught last Sunday if we are asked to re-cap everything.

In the chair- Peter Nicholson

Hey Mediadreamzers

I still cannot believe that it was a weeks ago that I was attending a James Bond dinner and then walking down the red carpet for the premiere of Spectre. Lots of people were bombarding me with comments and all my photos from the nights events. One thing that made me smile was a day or two after the premiere I went to pick something up for the house and got chatting to the guy in the office and after telling him about Spectre, he told me that a member of his family was a set dresser on 6 James Bond films, one of which was ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’. Basically, Pinewood Studios was like a second home to him, like it is to me. It was a shame to hear that he passed away 8 years ago, would have been nice to meet him as I’m guessing this guy’s life would have been interesting to hear about.

Tonight, with being off this week, I decided to attend my first Media networking event since I moved house, and it was a Q&A session with Peter Nicholson. Question; who is he, answer; he is a director who has credited programs and films such as Casualty, Pompeii: The Last Day, The Queen which was a program on Channel 4, and more recently ‘Kiss’ and ‘Dartmoor Killing’.
The session was really interesting, learning why Peter became a director, how he got into the industry, what films and people inspire him, all that jazz. I was also surprised to see someone I had worked on an indie film last year; Ciall Kennett and how he had been out of the UK for months working in Malta as a AD. Now he is back and has moved back to Milton Keynes, so we got to have a catch up. I enjoyed watching the clips that Peter showed us, one of which was from a doc-drama that I saw back in 2006 at the Nuremberg trials, specifically Goering and how he cheated the gallows. The best was saved for last seeing the trailer to Dartmoor Killing and an upcoming thriller called Swilly Girl, and the trailer got me and other people guessing what the plot was going to be.

Before I left I got to speak to Peter, where we exchanged business cards so I am hoping that if there are future projects in the pipeline and he is looking for crew, even if its for a few days I would so love to get involved, especially in a thriller as that genre is one of my favourites, you can’t beat the classic horror- My favourite is the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. What is next on the cards I do not know but I am constantly plugging away and I am so psyched that in the New Year I get to do more and work in the different departments at the Media company I work at. Hoping to move forward at some point next year, but first lets get Christmas out of the way.

Open Your Eyes

5 Oct

Hi Guys

I know it has been awhile since I wrote on my blog, reasons are rooted in me working on one of my short films (titled highlighted above). The film focuses on an issue that no-one was ever thought about until i have posed the question. I have now sorted out the audio and music on the film (for the moment I have, though if I can change it I will). It has taken a heck of a longtime trying to get everything near perfect, mainly with the music. Despite it being quiet in parts, I just hope that its ok.

I just hope you all enjoy what you see, any comments you have I would really appreciate, be as honest as you can be.

Now this is completed, I can move onto my next project that I have started on, and hopefully this next one will be ok too. So I will be adding updates on my next film and everything else that I am doing too.

New Year, New Resolution

3 Jan

Hi one and all

First let me begin by saying that I hope you had a great Christmas, and that 2012 is going to be a happy one for you all. As most people traditionally do on New Year’s Eve is make a New year resolution to do the usual; lose weight, not to swear so much, work harder, go bungee- jumping (if you have a adventurous streak) and many others to go by.

Mine however, is to start making my own independent short films, nothing too Hollywood but to just pick up a camera and go out there and film what I want (within reason). I have two project ideas in mind I hope that I have planned and will soon be working on, though I was hoping to do so today but because the weather is really bad, I have decided to go with my back-up plan until things settle down.

Once they are finished obviously they will go onto a disc and be ready to show others who are interested in what I have been working on since the New Year kicked in.

I just hope that my ideas work and that they are not foolish, but its a case of taking a leap of faith and just going for it, so lets see what chapters I can write, or film this being the case, for 2012.

Jammin’ with ‘The Deli Mix’

17 Oct

Well, I hope to be in the next few weeks, along with the filming I’m doing with the Derby Braves. A few weeks ago a friend who went to schol with contacted me asking if I would help him make a promotional music video of his band, called ‘The Deli Mix’, to send to the US.

For those of you who have not heard of ‘The Deli Mix’, I guarantee you will soon, not just through me writing about them on my blog, but also through their music. But for the momoent here is a little info on the band, ‘The Deli Mix’ is a funk and cpsychedelic rock band, whose music, when heard, is gonna blow everyones minds.

The next thing I will be writing about this awesome band is when I’ll start filming their music video. I’m gonna be honest and say I’ve never shot a music video before, so it will be a first and great experience for me too.

Can’t wait to get started working with ‘The Deli Mix’. They ROCK!

An Audience with Adele?

1 Sep

Well, this is a hopefully. I was talking with Liz who I radio volunteer with at Leciester Royal Infirmary about Adele coming to the East Midlands, and between us we came up with an idea. That idea, you may ask, was to apporach the reps of Adele to see if we could get a quick interview with her, that would be broadcasted on Hospital radio for all to hear. So for the e-mail has been sent and I await to hear if Adele will let me and Liz interview her, before she has to perform. I only hope the reply I get from her PR will be a positive one.
