Fantastic Miss Radio Fox

1 Nov

I know I’m playing with the film title of Mr. Fox, but on this occassion it has to be said, as Liz and I have a newbie who started at Radio Fox on Sunday, and I have to admit that was a surprise for both us as we didn’t know about this. It felt good going back after about a week of being away and seeing all the new music we’ve got, I only hope we get LMFAO’s new track ‘I’m Sexy & I Know It’. If you haven’t heard it yet, go onto Youtube and listen. So instead of there jsut being me and Liz on the mic Hannah our newbie joined in, I also showed her how the system works for finding music and the enormous selection of vinyls and cds.

Because it was the Sunday before Halloween we decided to add in a few Halloween songs, both oldies and ones with a somewhat relation to. Whilst at Radio Fox I surprised Liz with a birthday cake and a toffee apple crumble as we both share the same birthday 1st November. So while on air cake was eaten and topics were discussed., and the two hours went by so fast. Though next week I won’t be radioing as I am filming an American football game in Staffordshire, which I really bumped up about, I just hope I don’t mess up and I get it right. Either way I’ll let you know

An Audience with Adele?

1 Sep

Well, this is a hopefully. I was talking with Liz who I radio volunteer with at Leciester Royal Infirmary about Adele coming to the East Midlands, and between us we came up with an idea. That idea, you may ask, was to apporach the reps of Adele to see if we could get a quick interview with her, that would be broadcasted on Hospital radio for all to hear. So for the e-mail has been sent and I await to hear if Adele will let me and Liz interview her, before she has to perform. I only hope the reply I get from her PR will be a positive one.

Trains, Trams and MediaCity

29 Jul

My feet are throbbing from yesterday, but it was so worth it, considering the day I have had being in Manchester. After getting to Manchester Piccadilly, and jumping in a taxi my destination was MediaCity. Turning a corner and seeing the BBC sign, was the highlight of the day, and seeing the cool new buildings. After meeting Jane I was given a tour of one of the buildings and looking out of the window I got a great view of what was and will be on the Salford site. I think the pics speak for themselves, on the size and view.

My visit to MediaCity even involved a tour of the Lowry shopping centre, where I had lunch with Jane and her assistant, so I know where the nearest cinema and designer clothes shops are too. Back on site I got a tour of other buildings and in the entertainment block I encountered the boss of BBC North, Peter Salmon! All I thought at the time was OMG! As people say ‘save the best for last’ mine was meeting one of the people in the recruitment team, who will be contacting me in the next couple of weeks to go back to Manchester to have a meeting with her.

My visit went by so quickly, that I was sad when I had to leave, and I thought I’d leave in style, by going on the tram. I had never been on a tram before, and it reminded me of a rickety rollercaster. Because I had an hour to kill before leaving Manchester I just toured the train station, found a sushi bar (YO SUSHI) and chowed down to some on the train out. I only hope my call back to Manchester will be soon, and something positive comes out of it.

One woman show

4 Jul

What I mean by that is because Liz, my radio mentor, had this Sunday off I was in charge of the two hour show we do together, Sunday Sounds. It was exhausting going round two wards and getting back in time for the show. Because we were on auto-pilot I managed to put everything on manual use, all except the presenters mic, so for the first few seconds there was silence. Thankfully I clocked on why and just got on with the requests and other music I’d decided to play. It is hard to talk about anything on the radio when your alone in the studio. So I came away unscaved, and was greeted by comments from messages I got from other presenters saying well done. Lets see what happens next Sunday when Liz comes back.

Radio Presenter Training over!

16 Jun

As the title says, I am and have been declared an official radio presenter for Radio Fox. This has only taken four weeks, which has surprised me I thought it would take me longer to qualify. So I can now present a radio show by myself, or cover for another presenter. It will feel strange to be known as a presenter, when I have been a volunteer for so long, it will soon sink in at some point.

Rock DJ Training

5 Jun

I know a century or two have passed since I last wrote on my blog, but I now have some news to share. I am now be trained up as a volunteer presenter, at Radio Fox. When I first saw the notice I thought I was the only volunteer that needed training, as I had not met any others. What a shock I got on the first Tuesday that there were 5 of us; Adam, Alan, Emma, Me and the fifth name escapes me, but when it comes back I’ll add it. Although I have been training since Aug/ Sept last year, and know the gist of uploading a song, sourcing the music and cueing up a vinyl. It will be great when 6-8 weeks has gone by, and that my badge will change form volunteer to presenter, so looking forward to the day that that happens. One that day comes, I’ll let you all know.
